2012 Weeks 4 & 5

This week I was trying to collect my thoughts on what to blog about and the words kept escaping me. This is not a position I often find myself in (just ask my closest friends…LOL). Maybe it’s because I’m not allowed to do hardly ANYTHING!!!!! No lifting weights, cardio (ok, yes, walk on treadmill at speeds that I can even hear the treadmill saying, “Are you kidding me????” Sorry, I digress…I’ll put the hats and horns away because that was the extent of my pity party for the week.

As you may have guessed I’m still on the mend. Every time I tried to test my knee this week my body has given me a wakeup call! For instance, I decided to take the stairs with my big bulky brace and here I was listening to Gloria Estefan’s song “Reach” feeling like I could conquer the world motoring down the stairs and whoops next thing I knew took the fast way down the stairs on my bottom!!! (Sorry Angela, I forgot to text you that side note) There I was at the bottom of the stairs thinking OK I get it I’m not better yet!!!!! LMAO!!

On that note, I decided to look up quotes about patience and low and behold they are EVERYWHERE!! I guess I’m not the only person who has ever needed some guidance and wisdom about that ever difficult word patience! Here’s three to ponder on…1) “Not passively waiting…that is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow…that is patience.” 2) “All human wisdom is summed up in two words…wait and hope.” and the one I LOVE that I think fits me perfect 3)”Patience is PASSION TAMED.” (Love, love, love that one!)

My good news I’ve been told by my wonder trainer is that I have maintained my weight loss of 7.5lbs this week and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be cleared this week to start up again. Until then my friends I will just learn to have a little PATIENCE…..and keep eating clean as a very wise woman once told me!!! 😉

———————————————————————————————————————————

Hello ifit family readers! We are actually combining what weeks 4 AND 5 were—downtime!! Due to Cheryl’s (thankfully) minor injuries, her training came to a screeching halt – or slow down  – as she obeyed her doctor (as well as me) to allow her wrist and knee to heal. As one would expect, she was met with greater frustration and fear that her proven good efforts in weeks 1 through 3 would be lost altogether. Fortunately, as she continued on her extremely clean diet, that wasn’t the case and in spite of limited physical activity, she maintained her weight loss! Unfortunately, I had to remind her of that as she was so overwhelmed with the frustration of what happened and dealing with being patient – or rather struggling with being patient. :)

It is so common to have unexpected events create downtimes and detours in our fitness and wellness goals. Why? It’s called “life!”And just like anything else, that which does not kill us makes us stronger – physically AND mentally! Thus, Cheryl, who is clearly disciplined, ready and willing to make the changes to achieve new levels of fitness, had to swallow her pride and learn the art of patience very early in this journey. Frankly, I see this is as a very positive situation, one that will make her stronger mentally in the long-haul even after we’re finished working together.

The good news is that mid/week she met with her doctor and is cleared to begin working out! This, of course, doesn’t mean sprinting, jumping, running or ANYthing that is deemed high-impact for another week or two, but it DOES mean that she is healing properly and we can take baby steps back into the gym. Also, her regular routines will include very low weights and adaptations, as well as more core/stability exercises to assist with her healing versus assist in her ability to get stronger by lifting heavy and being too intense too soon after her clearance.

I’m enjoying working with Cheryl and appreciate her zealous spirit and confidence! This week will be interesting as she must continue to be gentle with herself, physically and patient, mentally…I also did a radio interview with Doctors of the USA Friday on her progress – check it out if you have some time: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/doctorsoftheusa/2012/03/02/take-control-follow-up-with-angela-firkins

Until next week…Stay focused & get fit!! :)
