A recent study proved that a restricted diet resulted in decreased symptoms of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).  100 children ages 4 to 8 diagnosed with ADHD were put on a restricted elimination diet of unprocessed rice, meat, vegetables, pears, and water, for five weeks.  Professor Buitelaar and his team found that ADHD symptoms reduced in 78% of the children.  In addition, when processed foods where re-introduced to the diet, there was a 63% relapse in behavior. Childhood obesity is a growing problem in more homes today than ever before. Jumping from a small percentage of children in the early 1980’s to our current percentage today (20-30% according to the CDC~children having a BMI of greater than 30), many families are facing new challenges. Preventing Eating Disorders In Children

National Eating Disorders Awareness week is Feb 20th - 26th.  Unfortunately, eating disorders and body image issues can be found amongst all ages.  One of the questions that I often ask children during my initial therapy assessment is “Do you think you need to lose or gain weight?”  The amount of children who say yes is astounding, and those that say yes usually state they feel overweight or need to diet, even if they appear an average weight. Convenient healthy snacks for your children

Most American families are busy and on the go. Full of school, work, team sporting events, housekeeping, and daily activities. With all we do in a day it is tough to not want to just seek the convenience of fast food and packages snacks for the kids. I am a large believer in convenience; always on the go and I know I must be prepared to instill good healthy eating habits in my daughter.
