Week 3 2012

So this week’s blog is about attitude....as you can recall from last week’s blog I took quite a fall. I knew that I had hurt myself pretty badly but maybe was in denial about how bad. I guess my thinking was if I don't acknowledge that I'm hurt then it will go away....WRONG!!! Wednesday I finally bit the bullet and went to the walk-in clinic and the verdict is a broken wrist and severely sprained collateral ligaments in my knee. I walked out defeated and in a leg brace from mid-thigh to mid-calf and my arm in splint. My first thought was to drive to the nearest McDonalds and drown my tears in … [Read more...]
What’s for Breakfast?

What did you have for breakfast this morning? Was it toast with jam, bowl of fibre rich cereal with milk, muesli, yogurt, protein shake, bacon and eggs, muffin, coffee, cigarette and a coke or NOTHING! I don’t need to reiterate the benefits of breakfast. Health gurus, nutritionists and doctors all tell us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Most people are educated enough to know not to skip breakfast. The issue lies in determining whether your choice of breakfast is healthy and the correct one for YOU. A client told me, “I eat cereal every morning because supposedly it is … [Read more...]
Week 2 2012

This week’s blog is all about breaking old mind sets and overcoming obstacles! I was given my treadmill & weight lifting workout this week by my "fairy godmother" trainer, Angela. Since I am "cardio queen" of the world I figured my cardio workout would be no sweat (boy was I wrong...LOL). Then, on top of that, I had to make things more difficult on myself by running to get the phone at work and completely wiping out!! After assessing the damage I had a knee that was swollen AND bruised, a wrist bruised from almost the elbow down and a huge bruise on my shoulder (when I do things I do … [Read more...]
Sugar Survival Secrets

When I consult with new clients, a recurring theme I often find is that clients are eating too infrequently and consume MUCH more sugar than they should. Eating too infrequently is quite obvious, but the sugars are often hidden, and most people have no idea how much sugar they consume on a daily basis. Americans are addicted to sugar. On average, we consume 355 calories per day, from sugar alone. That's approximately 22 teaspoons! When you think about lining up 22 teaspoons, you say "I don't eat that much sugar", but trust me, you do. There are hidden sugars in so many places that you … [Read more...]
You’ve Got To Love Yourself First

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, many of us have love on our minds. What is love anyway? We all want it. We all look for it. Where is it? We assume that when we “find” love, we’ll finally be happy. But even when we find someone to be in a relationship with, as we all know, this does not mean we are happy all the time. So then what? If we feel unhappy in a relationship, we may want to end that relationship and look for the next person who will finally make us feel happy. And so it goes. Valentine’s Day perpetuates the misguided notion that we need to find someone to love us or we are … [Read more...]
Happy wife = happy heart

You've heard the expression "A happy wife equals a happy life", right? Well what about "A happy wife equals a happy heart"? Believe it or not, but they ARE related. In October of last year, I got married :) For the first and ONLY time! When we made the decision to tie the knot, we couldn't be happier! Planning the wedding was so exciting. However, it was interesting to listen to people around us and their reactions to the announcement, particularly my soon-to-be husband's friends..."why would you do that"..."the old ball and chain"..."are you crazy? I'd love to get rid of my wife", and on … [Read more...]
Put on Your Own Oxygen Mask First

When you take a flight, each airline has a safety debriefing. The stewardess stands in the middle of the isle demonstrating the message of putting on your own oxygen mask first. The message is understandable, if you aren't breathing, how could you possibly save someone else's life. This message holds true in our everyday life as well. Many times we put off our own needs and health to prioritize others first. Kids, family, spouses, significant others, work, errands, friends, all of these can cut into the time of your own needs. And while serving all of these things or attempting to be … [Read more...]
